one week down...

So, we all survived the first week back after the winter break! The first 3 days made me want to cry (tooooo coooolllldd!!!) but the last two days we were able to get outside and PLAY!!! Today we had an assembly where we were told something SUPER EXCITING (I will let them tell you the news)...I will give you a hint, it involves a book! If you have any questions fell free to ask. (And a heads up...you can read ahead if need be)! :) Just keep the ending a secret! We starting our 2014 "Pay-it-Forward" lessons. You all got a card and paper to fill out how you and your child 'paid-it-forward'! This is such a powerful message to teach our youth...please help spread the message of how to PAY-IT-FORWARD! If you need more cards I have more and will send them home with your child! We have started a unit on BEARS...This is by far one of the students favourite! We will be learning about non-fiction vs fiction, beginning, middle and ends of a story, retelling, finding facts, and seeing all of the different ways we can learn about bears (magazines, technology, books, etc). SO FUN!!!! Enjoy the beautiful weather!!!

Chaos is coming...

We are full speed ahead now!!! Here are a few things to keep you up to date on what we have planned... -The POLAR EXPRESS PARTY is Friday! The kids can bring a blanket and a stuffy...or...stuffie???? that day. We have been doing all kinds of Polar Express 'things' this week (journal writing, math problems, addition and subtraction, and an art project) so a movie is a nice way to end a wonderful mini unit on an amazing story! (not to mention a nice way to end a week!!) -The Christmas concert is on Wed. Dec. 18th at 7:00pm. AT the end of the concert all the students involved will be singing 2 songs so please plan to stay for the entire concert. After the concert I will bring them back to the room and you can pick them up from there. -Fri. Dec 2oth-is PJ day!!! (Best day of the year!) and the last day of school before the break!! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL break filled with love, laughter, and family!!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

Remembrance Day

Tomorrow is our Remembrance Day program (and formal day) so please dress accordingly. Also, each child will be receiving a poppy and a cash donation is graciously accepted. We pass this money on to the veterans during the service. The city of Yorkton is having a service on November 11th - The Remembrance Day services will be held in the Flexi-Hall at the Gallagher Centre. All those attending are asked to be seated no later than 10:45AM. Thank you to all of our veterans!

DON'T FORGET....Open house at Columbia School is tomorrow from 6:30-7:30pm. After you have stopped at your child's classroom don't forget to "hit up" the book fair!!! Happy Education Week!!!
