hello

Hello and BURRRR!!!

Even though we all knew the cold weather was coming I was not ready for it.
We had indoor recess today as the temperature with the wind reached minus 30.
Please keep in mind that we do go out at -29 so make sure your child is prepared with proper clothing!
We have started adding in math and I am seeing some mathematicians in our room. Please work on math skills at home as they are just as important as reading or spelling.
We will be finishing up our bear unit soon. I think we all had a lot of fun learning about bears!
We are also busy reading, reading, reading!!! It is so important for you to read to your child every night as well as to let them read to you. Make this a nightly routine and you will see wonderful results academically as well as broadening their vocabulary. Your child will thank you!
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Stay Warm,
Ms. Heshka

reminders....

Friday was the last day of school before our 5 DAY BREAK! Everyone is so excited to have a few days off.
Wednesday is Remembrance day so don't forget to take part in ceremonies, thank a solider, or take a minute of silence.
We will NOT have a spelling test on Friday the 13th but their new words will be given to them for the following Friday (20th) test. Please make sure their BLUE spelling duo is brought back to school next week. Their small pink Hilroy (spelling test booklet) will also need to be returned.
I did send home some work books; if your child brought them home they have corrections that need fixed. They can be returned to school Thursday.
I also sent home some reading sheets. The kids were excited on Friday when they saw some of their names in the stories.
We just finished a spider unit and will be starting a bear one when we get back so I am looking forward to that.
We are just starting adding in Math. And are busy working on new words and sounds like ch,sh,th,etc. in Language Arts.
If you have any questions feel free to call, email, or leave the questions as a comment here on the blog.
Have a SUPER 5 days off!!

Treats

I hope you all had a very good Halloween weekend! Thank you to everyone who made it to our Halloween parade and party as well as to those who sent treats! I will ask that you refrain from sending your child Halloween treats in his/her lunch or for morning snack. Sugary snacks really hinder learning and make it hard for your child to concentrate. Please stick to healthy food choices.
Have a super day :)

Just Starting...

As a personal and professional goal I have decided to start a classroom blog. I truly believe it is an excellent way to make the home/school connection stronger. I will be making regular entries as well as posting students work, photos, and videos of all of the exciting things happening in our classroom. You can check the blog for upcoming events at Columbia School as well as for general news items.
Weekly spelling lists will also be posted on the blog. I will be putting up a collection of great websites for your child to use at home to enhance their understanding of the material being learned in the classroom.
Please be sure to check the blog on a regular basis to keep yourself updated. This is my first time creating a blog, so we will be embarking on this journey together but I do believe it will be a great tool to enhance communication between home and school.
